<p>In this tutorial, we are going to explain how to construct joints. Which are necessary to animate character objects.</p>
<p>Firstly, you should setup the skeleton and skin it.</p>
<p>And these are the few basic things that you should keep in mind before rigging It:</p>
<ul>
<li>Never keep triangles in a character.</li>
<li>Flow of the edges should be proper. Otherwise you will face problem at the time to skinning.</li>
<li>Character should be unwrapped properly.</li>
<li>Character should be on the grid as it’ll helpful to animator afterwards.</li>
<li>Delete the history time to time before you start up with rigging.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Rigging</h2>
<p>First we start up with setting a leg.</p>
<p>Select the joint tool and insert joints like shown in the image below:</p>
<div id="attachment_9" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 513px"><img class="size-full wp-image-9 " title="Step 1" src="http://blog.pixo.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pixo_step_01.jpg" alt="Step 1" width="503" height="654" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Step 1</p></div>
<p><span id="more-5"></span></p>
<p>After placing joint name it properly like <strong>left_foot_hip</strong></p>
<p>After that select the hip joint and mirror it in YZ.</p>
<p>Replace the LEFT to RIGHT. Like shown in the image below:</p>
<div id="attachment_10" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 584px"><img class="size-full wp-image-10 " title="Step 2" src="http://blog.pixo.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pixo_step_02.JPG" alt="step 2" width="574" height="566" /><p class="wp-caption-text">step 2</p></div>
<p>Then go for spine joints and name it like in the image below.</p>
<p>Name the joints like :-</p>
<ul>
<li>COG for root joint</li>
<li>Spine _A and Spine_B</li>
</ul>
<blockquote><p>Keep in mind that naming is necessary in rigging.</p></blockquote>
<div id="attachment_12" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 461px"><img class="size-full wp-image-12 " title="Step 3" src="http://blog.pixo.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pixo_step_03.jpg" alt="Step 3" width="451" height="735" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Step 3</p></div>
<p>After you are done with setting in spine joints .Lets start up with hand joints and don’t forget to name them. Put hand joints like in the image below.</p>
<div id="attachment_13" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 729px"><img class="size-large wp-image-13" title="Step 4" src="http://blog.pixo.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pixo_step_04-1024x492.jpg" alt="Step 4" width="719" height="345" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Step 4</p></div>
<p>Mirror all the joints like in the image below:<br />
<div id="attachment_15" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 781px"><p class="wp-caption-text">Step 5</p></div><img title="Step 6" src="http://blog.pixo.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pixo_step_06-1023x490.jpg" alt="Step 6" width="761" height="364" /></p>
<p>Lets start up with the head joints now.<br />
<div id="attachment_14" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 785px"><p class="wp-caption-text">Step 6</p></div><img title="Step 6" src="http://blog.pixo.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pixo_step_05-1024x491.jpg" alt="Step 6" width="765" height="366" /></p>
<p>After all the placement the skeleton will look like this:<br />
<div id="attachment_14" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 786px"><p class="wp-caption-text">Step 7</p></div><img title="Step 7" src="http://blog.pixo.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pixo_step_07-1024x474.jpg" alt="Step 7" width="766" height="354" /></p>
<p>Select all joints and press ‘shift’ select the character by clicking on it.</p>
<p>Now, as you done with the rigging part so, you can start up with skinning them <img src='http://blog.pixo.in/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> .</p>
